FAQ's

What is Chai Latte?
It is a spiced tea-based drink made with milk. Based on India’s centuries-old national drink, chai masala, it is a delicious blend of black tea, vanilla, honey, and a range of 'comfort spices’. Bondi Chai is Australia’s own version of this delightful drink.
What's the difference between Bondi Chai's three flavours?
The Vanilla Honey variety is a smooth, softer flavour while Club Cinnamon is closer to India’s traditional chai masala with stronger spices and crisp after taste. Ginger n Spice is our spiciest flavour and our dairy-free delight that's also vegan-friendly.
What does it taste like?
We’ve heard Vanilla Honey described as a bit like egg custard or eggnog, and our favourite description for our Club Cinnamon is "liquid doughnuts." Ginger n Spice tastes similar to the balanced flavour and warmth of a gingernut biscuit. The most common feedback we get is just "yum"!
How do you make it?
Add two teaspoons of Bondi Chai to a glass/cup of your hot milk of choice (steamed is best) and stir. For a frappé, dissolve in a little hot water and blend with super-chilled milk and ice in a blender. Add vanilla yoghurt and/or fruit for a delicious fruit smoothie. Check out more great recipes here
Can you make it with water?
Yes, some people prefer the stronger, spicier flavour when made with water. Add Bondi Chai to hot water with a dash of milk for a quick chai tea, or add a teaspoon of Bondi Chai powder to a cup of brewed tea!
What are the ingredients?
You'll find a full list of ingredients and nutritional information here.
Does it contain dairy?
Vanilla Honey and Club Cinnamon contain skim milk powder and whey powder. However, our Ginger n Spice variety is dairy-free. All three varieties are great with non-dairy milks including soy, almond, coconut or rice milk.
Is Bondi Chai an Australian company?
Absolutely! Bondi Chai is a 100% Australian-owned, privately held company. We make our products locally to an Australian-developed recipe using up to 94% Australian ingredients.
How much sugar is in it?
No more than a typical ‘white with one’ cup of tea or coffee. Chai is traditionally a sweet drink, but by including Australian honey as a sweetener we have significantly reduced the traditional sugar content to just 6g per serve (one teaspoon).
Why don’t you have a sugar-free option?

Since creating and launching Bondi Chai in 2005 we have tried many times to develop a sugar-free option – without success.

Whether it’s doubts around the “healthier” or “natural” claims of sugar-alternatives, their very high cost, the fact that they just tasted ‘not nice’ or some combination of those factors, every option we try just doesn’t make the grade.

Chai masala, India’s ‘national drink’ on which Bondi Chai is based, is very sweet, very creamy and incredibly delicious (we call it “India’s gift to the world”) and is traditionally made with lots of sugar or sugarcane derivatives like jaggery. It took many months of development work to reduce the sugar in our recipe to an absolute minimum – just 6g or 1 teaspoon per drink.

We are proud of the fact that our efforts to minimise sugar content have been applauded by nutritionists and dieticians in hospitals, aged-care facilities and schools around Australia. Bondi Chai is the only chai latte we know that has been approved as a ‘green light’ drink for schoolchildren of all ages.

Does it have caffeine in it?
Yes, a small amount... about the same quantity as green tea and half that of a brewed black tea. So, if you’re looking for a caffeine hit, you won’t get it from Bondi Chai (unless you make a "Dirty Chai" by adding a shot of espresso!).
Is it organic?
No, but you can be sure that Bondi Chai is made from only premium quality ingredients.
Is it gluten free?
Yes. Bondi Chai is certified gluten free as noted on our packaging.
Is it low fat?
Yes! Bondi Chai is 99% fat free when made with skim milk.
Does it have coffee in it?
No. It looks much like a café latte, but it is a tea-based drink.
Is it Kosher certified?
No. While our products have been Kosher certified, our certification has not been renewed in recent years.
How many drinks are in a pack?
Our 250g packs make 25 x 200ml drinks, our 500g packs make 50 drinks and our 1kg packs make up 100 drinks.
Is it okay to serve to children?
Yes – move over babycino! Children love Bondi Chai, and it has been assessed as a green light product for School Canteens by a number of states under the FOCiS nutrition criteria.
Where is Bondi Chai sold?
Bondi Chai is sold around Australia (in cafes and discerning retailers) and in a number of countries overseas. You can also buy Bondi Chai right here on our website, just click on the 'Shop' tab.
What awards has Bondi Chai won?

Bondi Chai attracted a lot of attention as Australia's most awarded chai latte in 2015. During our 'awards years' Bondi Chai won consecutive gold medals 3 years in a row in the Wrest Point Fine Food Awards. We were also recognised by the Healthy Food Guide magazine as one of Australia's healthiest milk drinks, became a finalist in several small business awards and gained recognition from Microsoft as one of Australia's Most Innovative Companies.

In 2014 we were named the NSW Micro Business of The Year and National Finalist in the prestigious Telstra Business Awards. But perhaps our biggest recognition came in Shanghai in 2015 when we were named the Asia Pacific Food & Beverage Business of the Year in the globally renowned Stevie Awards.

Most recently we were awarded Best Chai Latte 2021 in LUXlife Magazine’s Food & Drink Awards in the UK and won the Marketing Excellence Award in the 2023 Australian Business Awards for our Faces of Bondi Chai project.
