Cinnayum

Joondalup, Western Australia, Australia

Embarking on the adventure of opening Cinnayum marked Mel's official entry into the world of hospitality. A love of eating, baking and sharing delicious cinnamon rolls with her family, friends and the community sparked her passion to establish a cafe of her own - and the rest is history!

Cinnayum has been a rip-roaring success so naturally, Mel's been pondering expansion by way of stores or wholesalers to help more of her community get their hands on delicious Cinny Scrolls. Her range is already extensive, but Mel has lots of ideas to expand to more cinn-fully delectable flavours!

How do you separate your personal life from your life at Cinnayum?

We have been blessed with amazing, and very talented staff that are able to run the cafe in my absence, meaning that I am able enjoy personal days without any worry. I love what I do, but sometimes I do too much, so I need to make more time for family.

What’s your favourite ‘me time’ thing to do to relax?

I like spending time with my family and friends, watching or playing basketball, and travelling.

What nice surprises have you found in running Cinnayum?

Meeting lots of different people and hearing their stories and life.

Have there been any not-so-nice surprises?

The COVID pandemic was a not-so-nice surprise but a good learning experience and glad we saw the other side.

Do you have any advice for someone contemplating opening or buying a café?

Be prepared to work extremely hard and only do it if you love it!

Do you have any funny or favourite visitor stories?

Too many favourite customer stories! However, a highlight of mine and our staff would have to be our weekend visits from Ollie our favourite Border Collie.
