SOUL HUB NEWCASTLE

Soul Hub (previously Soul Cafe) was established in 2003 to provide essential services to vulnerable and homeless people in Newcastle. Soul receives no government funding, relying purely on donations to provide hot meals and essential services for their guests.

The incredible work of the Soul Hub team not only feeds the local homeless, needy and vulnerable but also caters to the whole person by providing services including (but not limited to) drug and substance abuse programs, haircuts, laundry, legal aid and advice, medical services and basic day-to-day human needs that many of us take for granted like blankets, coats, hygiene products and just a friendly face to chat with over a hot meal.

Soul Hub runs various events throughout the year to encourage people to get involved and raise money to support their guests. All donations collected go straight to supporting Soul's work within the community.

During the summer months, Soul's main community initiative is Friday Chill. Held in Newcastle's Pacific Park, you can come along and listen to the smooth sounds of live local bands and grab some nibbles and drinks from the on-site vendors.

Soul's major annual fundraising event is Sleepout For Soul, which is held during winter. Each year the community is invited to 'sleep out' overnight in a Newcastle parking lot to raise awareness of what it's like to sleep rough. The number of participants grows with each event, as do the donations raised.

Without any government assistance, Soul Hub's only source of financial support comes from the kindness and generosity of the community and corporate sponsorship deals. Bondi Chai is one of the two main sources of funding that has allowed Soul to hire a Social Worker to assist guests in getting back on their feet and gaining employment.
